Side Ponytail {1.20.14}

I knew my hair would be a mess if I slept on the curly fro it was yesterday so last night I played around with it and decided a ponytail was the way to go. I did two twist to my head and put it in a side ponytail. I added bobby pins and a head band today. 🙂

Twist Out on Straight Hair with Rollers {1.19.14}

I straightened my hair last week and it was hitting the end of the road. I decided to try a twist out on my straight hair. It was dry and I just put coconut oil on it as I twisted it. I put rollers on the end of each twist and off to bed I went. I loved the results! It was fun to switch things up.

But I’m excited to be back! Even with the craziness, I’ve been jotting down ideas. Pictures say 1000 words so here’s a few from the last two months. 😀

{Natural Hair Journey}

I have been post big chop about 14 months now and it was the best hair decision I’ve ever made. I can so much with my hair! It’s healthy and happy! It’s grown so much and this year I’ve been  experimenting with color. Here’s some pictures from the beginning to now! 😀

What men actually think about natural hair…

I admitted yesterday that I was very surprised by the men. I picked a variety of guys kinda guessing which ones wouldn’t like natural hair. To my surprise, their answers  were very different than expected. I think you’ll be surprised as well.  I asked them three questions:

What is “natural hair”?
Do you prefer “natural” or “straight” hair?
What do you think about natural hair?

1) Natural hair is grown without formulas.
2) I really don’t have a preference on hair but it’s different.
3) I think woman who grow natural hair is thinking a lot more expressively.
Everyone cannot pull off having the natural look so woman who can pull it off are already beautiful.

I like natural hair. Hair is natural when no dyes are used and no perms. I like either natural or straight, doesn’t matter… whatever looks cute to her. Natural hair is by far the prettiest.

1) Natural hair is untreated hair no chemicals or hot irons/combs.
2) I prefer natural.
3) I think natural hair shows the natural beauty in a woman and it compliments her well. A woman who can embrace their natural beauty regardless of age color, texture of hair or length is sexy to me.

1)Natural hair is when you rock it how it grows! No color, no perm, no flat iron, nothing! Just being comfortable sporting YOU!

2)Depends on who the hair is on, I do like me some curls though. When its very curly is the best.

3)Natural hair is the way to go! It’s all good fixing up and changing it up here and there, but a guy shouldn’t be judging you by your fixed up hair anyways. Both are good to sport and different times, however, on a regular basis.. natural!

1) Hair that is unadorned and uncolored.
2) Natural
3) I love it. I believe it takes confidence for someone to be their true self in this world. It shows that you love yourself in a very pure way. That produces confidence.

1) Natural hair refers to a style of hair black women wear. They don’t use any of the artificial chemicals to relax or “perm” it.

2) They are both different and look good in different ways, I don’t prefer one over the other.

3) Natural hair is great and very healthy for women’s hair. Any white guy that is dating a black girl should be very knowledgeable about it especially if he has a biracial daughter.

Natural to me is not only a style, but a tribute to our culture. I prefer it simply because I know she’s not stressing over her hair as much, and you don’t have to deal with as much on a getting ready stand point. And it’s cool…I like a girl who is more about her roots and isn’t afraid to show  it in her everyday style. We should embrace our differences and roots, because most of us don’t even know them.

I was very surprised to find that all the guys like natural hair. I intentionally chose a DIVERSE group of guys because honestly I had already decided which ones would say they hated it. Boy was I wrong. I can’t help but thinking I some how got a strange group haha. But what can I say, natural hair is awesome. What’s not to love? 😉

What do men think of natural hair? {Perspective from Women}

I came across “black girl problems” on pinterest and one in particular caught my eye (shown above). I instantly laughed because in all most experiences it’s  been true. If I go out with my hair natural, white guys absolutely adore it. They think its beautiful and exotic. On the other hand, I’ve been asked by several black guys when my I’m wearing my natural hair if I ever straighten it. I’ve been natural for a little over a year now and it’s always interesting to see what men think of natural hair. In particular white men vs black men. So I decided to do a little survey on what women think men think and what they actually think. I have to admit, the men surprised me. But first we’re going to start out with the woman. Ladies first, right?

{Woman #1}

26 years old/Jamaican American

How long have you been natural? 2 1/2 years

I find that white guys are enamored with my hair. They always use adjectives like beautiful, gorgeous, exotic, and other pleasant adjectives to describe it. Black guys, however, don’t seem to share the same perspective. This is a generalization, of course. I’ve had a few black men question natural hairstyles that I’ve pinned on Pinterest, and a guy (black) even said I looked like a slave. My hair was in an undefined puff. Strangely enough, I have wavy-curly hair and if it was defined, he probably wouldn’t have made that comment.

{Woman #2}

25 years old/Black

How long have you been natural? 1 yr & 5 months

A lot of black guys I know think my natural hair is sexy. White guy friends say its cool.

{Woman #3}

30 years old/Black

How long have you been natural? 1 year

Honestly just as long as it look good I think they could care less. But I keep a sew-in, so most people don’t know I’m natural.

{Woman #4}

21 years old/White

Naturally curly hair

 What is natural hair?

Follicles that occur naturally out of your head.

What do you think about natural hair?

It’s not embraced enough and covered up more than it should be. God thinks its GORGEOUS.

What do you think Black guys think of natural hair?

Black guys just want to tap girls with straight hair. Anything that’s been treated…maybe they think because they put so much effort in their they put more effort into everything…

What about White guys?

Educated white guys love it (i.e. hipsters, artist, guys from larger cities). They don’t care as long as they can see your face. The white guys who aren’t as educated would probably prefer straight hair. It’s commercialized.

What have been your experiences? Do you agree or disagree with some of this? Feel free to comment! I’m interested to see different opinions.
