October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and I want to highlight all cancers. Breast Cancer is always highlighted and other cancers are “forgotten.” All cancers hurt. I recently met a woman who’d been taking chemo for FIVE years. She has bone cancer and needs a bone marrow transplant. She spends her time advocating for bone cancer awareness because she said she’s forgotten. Her exact words were, “My ribbon isn’t pink so somehow I’m less important.” It just made me think about how much breast cancer is in the light. I don’t think it shouldn’t be but I think other cancers should share the spot light. I lost my granny to bladder cancer after she won against breast cancer. Before my granny was diagnosed with breast cancer, I didn’t even know there was a yellow ribbon for cancer. Cancer is devastating, no matter what kind.
